Catapres Uses catapres lowers blood pressure by decreasing the levels of certain chemicals in your blood. This allows your blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax (widen) and your heart to beat more slowly and easily. catapres is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). How To Use Catapres Take Catapres exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water.Take catapres at bedtime unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Catapres may make you drowsy and may cause some dizziness. Taking it at bedtime may prevent falls and injuries. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Catapres Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects :an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives), a very slow heart rate (fewer than 60 beats per minute), or unusually high or low blood pressure (severe headache, redness of the face, neck, and chest, dizziness, and fainting). Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take catapres and talk to your doctor if you experience any of the following: unusual fatigue, dizziness, or tiredness, headache, constipation, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, insomnia, or a dry mouth. Catapres Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history, including : If you
have any type of heart disease, have had a heart attack or a stroke, have liver disease, or have kidney disease
. Catapres should not be used without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy. As it might passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Ask your doctor Before breast-feeding a baby. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Catapres may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities and notify your doctor. Also use caution when rising from a sitting or lying position. Use alcohol cautiously. Alchol may further lower blood pressure and increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking Catapres. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking Catapres except under the supervision of your doctor. Heavy sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, or other causes of fluid loss may lead to very low blood pressure, dizziness, and fainting during therapy with Catapres. Avoid becoming overheated. Low blood pressure, dizziness, and fainting could result. Be careful not to overexert yourself, and use caution in hot weather. Catapres Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you are using, especially : a beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin), acebutolol (Sectral), propranolol (Inderal), metoprolol (Lopressor), carvedilol (Coreg), carteolol (Cartrol), labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), or nadolol (Corgard), levodopa (Dopar, Larodopa, Sinemet), prazosin (Minipress), or verapamil (Verelan, Calan, Isoptin, Covera-HS), or a tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Endep), imipramine (Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor, doxepin (Sinequan), and others. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Cardizem. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Catapres Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include
drowsiness, lethargy, weakness, lightheadedness, a slow heart rate, nausea, vomiting, and possibly seizures. Catapres Notes Do not share Catapres with others. Catapres Missed Dose If you miss an Catapres dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Catapres Storage Store Catapres at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
