Ceftin Uses Ceftin an antibiotic in a class of drugs called cephalosporins. Ceftin fights bacteria in the body. It is used to treat many different types of bacterial infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, ear infections, skin infections, gonorrhea, and urinary tract infections. How to Use Ceftin Take Ceftin exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Ceftin Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, face, or tongue, hives, or a rash), rash, redness, or itching, severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, mucous or blood in the stool, or unusual bleeding or bruising. Other, less serious side effects may also occur. Continue to take the medication and talk to your doctor if you experience, mild nausea or diarrhea, or yeast infection of the mouth or vagina. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual. Ceftin Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history, including: kidney disease, or· a gastrointestinal (digestive) disease such as colitis, or have an inherited protein metabolism disorder called phenylketonuria.
Ceftin should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Ceftin should not be used without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy. As it might passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Ask your doctor Before breast-feeding a baby. Caution is advised when this product is used in the elderly since this group may be more sensitive to side effects.
Ceftin Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you are using, especially : antacids (e.g., Tums, Maalox, Rolaids, others) or other medications taken to reduce stomach acid such as cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB, others), famotidine (Pepcid, Pepcid AC, Pepcid RPD, others), ranitidine(Zantac, others), or nizatidine (Axid, others) . Antacids and stomach acid reducers may reduce the effects of Ceftin. Probenecid (Benemid), a loop diuretic (water pill) such as furosemide, bumetanide (Bumex), torsemide (Demadex), or ethacrynic acid (Edecrin), warfarin (Coumadin), or another antibiotic. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Ceftin. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Ceftin Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include irregular or unusually slow or fast heartbeat, unusual nervousness or excitement, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.
Ceftin Notes Do not share Ceftin with others.
Ceftin Missed Dose If you miss an Ceftin dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Ceftin Storage Store Ceftin at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
