Hytrin Uses Hytrin is in a class of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. Hytrin causes the blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax and expand, which allows blood to pass more easily through them. Hytrin is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Hytrin is also used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). It relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
How To Use Hytrin Take Hytrin exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water.
To avoid falling, take the first dose of Hytrin at bedtime. Hytrin may cause dizziness. It is a good idea to take every dose at bedtime, if possible.
Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Hytrin Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives), fast heartbeats, shortness of breath or chest pain, a prolonged or painful erection, or a rash. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Hytrin and talk to your doctor if you experience vivid dreams, dizziness or drowsiness, weakness, fatigue, or a feeling of not being well, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, or decreased appetite, fluid retention or slight weight gain, joint or muscle aches, headache, irritability, or depression, increased urination, decreased sex drive, or numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, arms, or legs. Hytrin Precautions Tell you doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. You may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during therapy with Hytrin. Hytrin should not be used without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy. As it might passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Hytrin may cause dizziness. If you experience dizziness, avoid these activities. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase the side effects of Hytrin. Avoid a diet high in salt. Too much salt may cause the body to retain water and may decrease the effects of Hytrin. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Hytrin may increase the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when exposure to the sun is unavoidable. Avoid becoming overheated in hot weather and during exercise. It is easier to become dangerously dehydrated while taking Hytrin. Hytrin Drug Interactions Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal supplements, during treatment with Hytriin. Hytrin Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include weakness, dizziness, and fainting, a weak, fast pulse, cold, clammy skin, and possible loss of consciousness or coma. Hytrin Notes Do not share Hytrin with others. Hytrin Missed Dose If you miss an Hytrin dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Hytrin Storage Store Hytrin at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
