Isordil Uses Isordil is in a class of drugs called nitrates. Isordil dilates (widens or relaxes) blood vessels (arteries and veins). When blood vessels are dilated, it is easier for the heart to pump. Also, more blood, which is rich in oxygen, can flow to the heart. Isordil is used to treat attacks of angina (sublingual and chewable tablets) and to prevent attacks of angina from occurring (capsules and tablets). How To Use Isordil Take Isordil exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water.Take Isordil while sitting or lying down to prevent injury. Extreme dizziness and fainting are possible after a dose of Isordil.
Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Isordil Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives), blurred vision and dry mouth, irregular heartbeat, or fainting. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. If you experience any of the following side effects, continue to take isosorbide and talk to your doctor: headache or dizziness, flushing (redness of the face, neck and chest), nausea or vomiting, fast heartbeat, swollen ankles, or weakness. Isordil Precautions Tell you doctor if you have had a heart attack, have congestive heart failure, have low blood pressure, have had a stroke, a transient ischemic attack (TIA, or mini-stroke), or a serious head injury, have anemia, have an allergy to nitrates, have closed-angle glaucoma, suffer from migraines, have kidney disease, or have liver disease. Isordil should not be used without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy. As it might passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Ask your doctor Before breast-feeding a baby. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, and performing other hazardous activities. As it may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Isordil Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you are using, especially : dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45), or any other heart medicines, especially those used to treat high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Isordil. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Isordil Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include a severe throbbing headache, difficult or slow breathing, muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, dizziness, fainting, an irregular or slow heart beat, changes in vision, confusion, flushing, and seizures. Isordil Notes Do not share Isordil with others. Isordil Missed Dose If you miss an Isordil dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Isordil Storage Store Isordil at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
