Lopid Uses
Lopid is used to lower high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.
How To Use Lopid Take Lopid exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.Take each dose with a full glass of water. Lopid is usually taken twice daily, 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you.
Lopid Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives), chest pain, shortness of breath, or an irregular heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or clay-colored stools, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), rash or itching, sores in the mouth or on your lips, swollen legs or feet, chills, fever, or blood in the urine, or muscle aches, pain, or cramping. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Lopid and talk to your doctor if you experience indigestion, headache, dizziness, or drowsiness, or decreased sex drive.
Lopid Precautions Tell you doctor if
you have liver disease, kidney disease, or gallbladder disease.
Lopid should not be used without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy. As it might passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Ask your doctor Before breast-feeding a baby. Use caution driving, operating machinery, and performing other hazardous activities until you know how Lopid affects you. It may cause some drowsiness or dizziness, especially at the start of therapy.
Lopid Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you are using, especially : an anticoagulants (blood thinner) such as warfarin (Coumadin), insulin or an oral diabetes medication such as chlorpropamide (Diabenese), glipizide (Glucotrol), glyburide (Micronase, DiaBeta, Glynase), tolbutamide (Orinase), tolazamide (Tolinase), and acetohexamide (Dymelor), and others, or another cholesterol-lowering drug such as atorvastatin (Lopid), lovastatin (Mevacor, Altocor), simvastatin (Zocor), pravastatin (Pravachol), fluvastatin (Lescol, Lescol XL) . Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Lopid.
Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
Lopid Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include
diarrhea, headache, and muscle pain. Lopid Notes Do not share Lopid with others. Lopid Missed Dose If you miss an Lopid dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Lopid Storage Store Lopid at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
