How to Use Promethazine

Take Promethazine exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Promethazine can be taken with or without food. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you.

Promethazine Side Effects

Dizziness, drowsiness, sleepiness, or confusion, restlessness or irritability, blurred vision or a dry mouth, nausea or vomiting, increased skin sensitivity to sunlight, an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), uncontrollable movements of the eyes, lips, tongue, face, arms, or legs. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take phenylephrine and promethazine and talk to your doctor if you experience.

Promethazine Precautions

Tell your doctor your medical history, including: epilepsy or another seizure disorder, been diagnosed with sleep apnea (periods of not breathing during sleep), glaucoma, an ulcer or an obstruction in your stomach, bladder problems or difficulty urinating, high blood pressure or any type of heart disease, or liver problems. Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate drug side effects. Promethazine should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. The pseudoephedrine in this product is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
