Pyrazinamide Uses Pyrazinamide is an antibiotic. Pyrazinamide prevents growth of the tuberculous bacteria in the body. Pyrazinamide is used to treat tuberculosis (TB). How to use Pyrazinamide Take Pyrazinamide exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. You can take Pyrazinamide with or without food. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Pyrazinamide Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effectsThis drug may cause following serious side effects: allergic reaction (flushing; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; vision problems; rash; itching; or fever). Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Pyrazinamide and talk to your doctor if you experience, visual disturbances such as unusual weakness or fatigue, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite, yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, difficult or painful urination, painful or swollen joints, worsening gout, or a rash. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual. Pyrazinamide Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history especially of : If you had a previous allergic reaction to Pyrazinamide, liver disease, gout, kidney disease, or diabetes mellitus. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Pyrazinamide should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Pyrazinamide Drug Interactions Pyrazinamide may decrease the effects of allopurinol (Zyloprim). A dosage adjustment may be necessary if you take pyrazinamide during treatment with allopurinol. Pyrazinamide may also affect the Acetest and Ketostix urine tests for ketones. This reaction can cause a pink-brown color to appear. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Pyrazinamide. Pyrazinamide Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
